WOLF OF WALL STREET * 12 YEARS A SLAVE

Wolf of Wall Street - It's a movie.  Yes, it's based on true events, but it's a movie.  One friend walked out on it at the theater, another thought it was base and disgusting that these guys did what they did.  And that's true.  But I still say, it's a movie.  And I loved it.  Wolf of Wall Street is reminiscent Goodfellas, which was another movie where a crazy out of control guy narrates his story.  It moves fast, it's filled with funny lines and events and close calls, it's bad boys against good, and it's all these things which make it an entertaining movie.  If you're squeamish and take your movies too seriously, then this might not be the one for you.  If you gobble up movies because you love to watch stories come to life, then you may enjoy this crazy ride as much as we did.  Leonardo was phenomenal, as was the entire cast.  So go for it!
Then in true double feature mode, we watched a movie that couldn't have been more different from Wolf:

12 Years A Slave - And it was excellent.  A free and educated man is captured by bounty hunting kidnappers and sent south to be sold as a plantation slave.  Also based on a true story, the events in this movie mirrored those that I read about in The Narrative of Frederick Douglass.  It's unbelievable that these events are part of our American history and heritage.  This is a movie for everyone to see, to ensure that something like this never happens again.
