Lone Survivor - A new best movie. Lone Survivor is an incredible true story about human resilience. It's the most moving story of all the movies. War, perseverance, brotherhood, violence, Afghanistan, Navy Seals - it's all here and all real. I'm somewhat wordless with my praise because it was that good. If you're going to see one movie this year, let this be the one.
My Greek Drama Life, Love, and One Woman's Olympic Effort to Bring Glory to Her Country by Gianna Angelopoulos - This is an amazing memoir about a woman's struggle and leadership against a powerful ingrained political system. Gianna Angelopoulos, against all odds, first secured the 2004 Olympic Games for Greece, then, as the politicians of Greece embarrassingly were about to let the games slip through their hands, she came back to lead the effort to actually make the Olympics happen. She brought her project in on time and under budget. She changed the very face of Athens and was able to change the very nature of the people by being honest, communicative and tenacious. I believe that if this woman were elected Prime Minister of Greece, she could turn the country around. She's a brilliant strategist and tireless worker. Thanks to Val for loaning me this book. Gianna proves that getting a big job done, does not have to be, indeed, cannot be business as usual. Must reading for anyone whoever led a group or aspires to leadership in any endeavor. Mother, I just ordered a copy to be sent to you. You'll love this one.
Her Heart On Her Sleeve: I live in a suburb north of Chicago, and I read, bead, make jewelry, sew, watch TV and movies, crochet, craft, decorate, go to house and garage sales, walk and go on beach walks, listen to music, take pictures, cook and bake, read, and write about all of it on herheartonhersleeve. I have a companion blog called Jewlery by Dianne Sophia at diannesophia.blogspot.com where I write exclusively about my jewelry.
Jewelry By Dianne Sophia: I have been collecting vintage jewelry since I was a girl growing up in Detroit, and have been designing and making jewelry for 15 years. I love to work with pearls and crystals, semi-precious stones, Sterling Silver and Gold, along with vintage beads and materials. I delight in combining shape, pattern and color in new ways. I'm inspired and influenced by my travels and experiences as a reader, writer, photographer and student of life. My blog herheartonhersleeve.blogspot.com chronicles my life in art and popular culture.
