Frances Ha - This is a charming movie about a sweet and charming free-spirited young woman living in New York City and figuring out life. Since she's in her 20s, life is friends, roommates, parties, work and relationships. The components don't always fit together perfectly, which makes for a great movie. This is what Girls could be if it wasn't so edgy and raunchy. It's got Greta Gerwig, Adam Driver, interesting clothes and interiors, scenes in other cities and black and white. Others have described it as a comedy, but I wouldn't - this one defies categorization - but maybe the genre is a very loose coming of age. If I could describe Frances Ha in one word, it would be "refreshing". The Wedding Beat by Devan Sipher - Devan writes the Vows wedding announcements column for the New York Times, and if you've never read Vows, then you're missing one of the best parts of The Paper (as he calls it in The Wedding Beat). I thought the book was going to be along the lines of a compilation of best ofs, but instead it's a fictional story about a guy who writes the column. He's super analytical and thinks too much which is what trips him up in his own quest for love. Devan writes wtih humor and heart. It was the perfect light read to bounce off some of the more intense good books I've been reading lately. put it on your list if only to find out what goes into writing Vows. Decorating Update - I got back on my horse (ladder) yesterday and continued around the master bedroom - one more day of painting and I'll be finished! Then comes the difficult task of not stuffing the room with all the non-bedroom stuff that was in there. And figuring out where to put all said stuff. And deciding to decorate the room cohesively once and for all. It's time to pull it together!
Her Heart On Her Sleeve: I live in a suburb north of Chicago, and I read, bead, make jewelry, sew, watch TV and movies, crochet, craft, decorate, go to house and garage sales, walk and go on beach walks, listen to music, take pictures, cook and bake, read, and write about all of it on herheartonhersleeve. I have a companion blog called Jewlery by Dianne Sophia at diannesophia.blogspot.com where I write exclusively about my jewelry.
Jewelry By Dianne Sophia: I have been collecting vintage jewelry since I was a girl growing up in Detroit, and have been designing and making jewelry for 15 years. I love to work with pearls and crystals, semi-precious stones, Sterling Silver and Gold, along with vintage beads and materials. I delight in combining shape, pattern and color in new ways. I'm inspired and influenced by my travels and experiences as a reader, writer, photographer and student of life. My blog herheartonhersleeve.blogspot.com chronicles my life in art and popular culture.
