CHI-RAQ - Spike Lee's masterpiece with an all star cast is based on an ancient Greek Myth where by the women are tired of the men and their killing and their war and their weapons. They band together to devise a way to persuade the men to put down their arms. The men are beside themselves - they didn't realize that the women had power, and even though they are suffering because of it, they still don't. If this movie inspired one person to put down the gun and make a decision not to shoot and kill, it will have been worth it.I don't feel unsafe living here, but I'm angry that so many of my fellow citizens do not live in safety. Chicago is a place where children are murdered. The system, such as it is, is all messed up. This is our biggest issue: guns and the money their sales bring in to a small number of people, corporations and organizations. The NRA and the gun manufacturers have to be stopped. If Big Tobacco could be stopped, the guns can be stopped. Compromise? 2nd Amendment? OK, let each person be allowed a handgun and/or a shotgun. No automatic weapons. We'd be safer and the right to bear arms people would have their right. This rant is a plea.
Foxcatcher - We finally watched Steve Carrell play his strange role as a wealthy man obsessed with wrestling and winning. It's based on a true story, and I was able to watch it and go on, but Steve is still thinking about it. I don't know why.
Woman In Gold - Another movie based on a true story. An American woman decides to go after the Austrian government for a painting that is rightfully hers that the nazis confiscated in 1943. The painting is amazing, and the movie is beautifully made and moves along nicely.
sit! stay! speak! by Annie England Noblin - This is a sweet romance novel in the genre of the 1980s set in modern day Arkansas. Addie moves to a new town and quickly meets both the bad guys and the good guys, and gets all mixed up with both. It's a goofy title, but tells you that there will be dogs in this book. It's a beach read.
Her Heart On Her Sleeve: I live in a suburb north of Chicago, and I read, bead, make jewelry, sew, watch TV and movies, crochet, craft, decorate, go to house and garage sales, walk and go on beach walks, listen to music, take pictures, cook and bake, read, and write about all of it on herheartonhersleeve. I have a companion blog called Jewlery by Dianne Sophia at diannesophia.blogspot.com where I write exclusively about my jewelry.
Jewelry By Dianne Sophia: I have been collecting vintage jewelry since I was a girl growing up in Detroit, and have been designing and making jewelry for 15 years. I love to work with pearls and crystals, semi-precious stones, Sterling Silver and Gold, along with vintage beads and materials. I delight in combining shape, pattern and color in new ways. I'm inspired and influenced by my travels and experiences as a reader, writer, photographer and student of life. My blog herheartonhersleeve.blogspot.com chronicles my life in art and popular culture.
