THE ICE CREAM QUEEN OF ORCHARD STREET

The Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street by Susan Jane Gilman - The story of Malka Treynovsky Bialystoker Lillian Dunkle from her very first memories to the time she spends with her 18 year old grandson.  It's a fabulous good old fashioned rags-to-riches tale of the low times, the high times, dreams coming true and dreams falling through. My only fault with the book is the poor choice of cover art which you will only understand if you read the book. Good picture, but it doesn't represent Lillian. Read the book and you'll see why. She's difficult to picture, but she's very honest about how she looks. Her honesty about who she is comes through in her trademark expressions. First they annoyed me, then they were fun, and finally they were comforting. You'll see.
