SOLDIER X * MONUMENTS MEN * MILLION DOLLAR ARM

Soldier X by Don Wulffson - A World War II Story told from the unusual perspective of a former German soldier who was drafted into Hitler's army as a young boy. How he kept himself alive to tell the tale is a gripping story of chance happenings and circumstances. Peter had read it for 8th grade English and I took it on vacation because it was a small slim paperback. Steve started reading it and couldn't put it down until he finished just as I was ready to pick it up.  It's a really good story.

Monuments Men - Everyone raved about this George Clooney movie with a host of movie stars playing the American soldiers who located and saved European art treasures looted by the Nazis. It's a good story, but the movie wasn't as fabulous as all that. Too many well known faces playing the nameless art experts and historians who accomplished the mission. Glad I waited for the DVD, and glad I watched. Although I would have been just as happy to see a true documentary with slide after slide of the actual photos and a few interviews with the real life heroes. On the other hand if you like all these movie stars playing together, you might love it.

Million Dollar Arm - Down on his luck sports agent needs some luck, gets an idea and runs with it. This true story is charming and who doesn't like watching Jon Hamm? Not to mention the million dollar arm boys.
