A GOOD MOVIE

Rosenstrasse: A wonderful movie to curl up and watch on a rainy night. This is the story of German women (Aryans) who were married to Jewish men in Berlin, Germany in 1943. One day all the men were rounded up from their munitions factory jobs (they had already been denied their various careers by the Nazis) and taken away. When they disappeared, their wives were frantic. The spouses were supposed to be protected by their Aryan wives. The wives found out that their husbands were being held at the Jewish Social services center, and this story is about what happened to all of these people.

When The Emperor Was Divine: This is a fast little read by Julie Otsuka is about the lives of a Japanese family from Berkeley, CA, and what happened to them just after Pearl Harbor was bombed in December 1942. It is a nice companion to a previous recommendation called Tallgrass. This story isn't as lyrical or compelling as Tallgrass, but it is a still a good read.

BACK TO MY BLOG

I need a topic. I think I'll go read some other blogs while I ruminate.
